José Ignacio "Surfart" Vargas Celis (1975). is one of the most active painters from Pichile, having studied art and painting at the university. His theme is mainly related to the sea and surfing.
In fact, more than someone knows him as the muralist of the "mermaids", where this species from marine mythology (half fish, half woman) is usually the protagonist in his colorful works that can be seen in different parts of the urban area, such as in pictures in different formats.
He has participated in group and individual exhibitions. And today, along with creating and creating works, he teaches through custom or group painting courses. Although, not infrequently he is absent to be part of a project, where a mural visually becomes the attraction for the public.
Something that does not stop attracting attention in his work is the perfection of the waves. The explanation is simple: in addition, this artist is part of the first generations of local surfers -where his son Nicolás followed him in the waves, being today one of the best in the country- and, therefore, he knows the waves from the outside and inside.
If he wants to know more about his work and/or perhaps dare to paint, easy: Look for him in the "Callejón-Art", located at Dionisio Acevedo N ° 248.
